Rio de Janeiro, September 5, 2022 – PRIO (B3: PRIO3 – formerly PetroRio), Brazil’s largest independent oil and gas company and a pioneer in recovering and increasing the useful life of mature fields, will invest R$1 million in sponsorship of the Brazilian Symphony Orchestra (OSB), through the Federal Law for Cultural Incentive. In addition to activities of the Musical Connections project, OSB’s social and educational inclusion initiative, the partnership includes support for some concerts of the orchestra’s artistic season, as well as for audience formation programs, such as Concerts for Youth, open rehearsals for public school students

PRIO’s proposed partnership with OSB aims at a less unequal and more sustainable, collective, balanced, and conscious Rio. Besides culture, the actions that will be developed by the Orchestra, with the sponsorship of the oil company, are also in tune with education and environmental preservation.

“The Brazilian Symphony Orchestra represents one of the many institutions of excellence that exist in Brazil and that deserve more recognition. The country has a lot of power and talent, including in this erudite and complex art that is classical music, and we have one of the best levels in the world. We are very honored to support an institution that is more than 80 years old and is a heritage of all Brazilians,” says Nelson Queiroz Tanure, Chairman of PRIO.

The partnership will last for one year, until August 2023. The project coordinated by the OSB will support three music education centers in the city, impacting the communities of Guaratiba, Cidade de Deus, Marambaia, and Penha, with symphonic instrument classes, such as violin, cello, clarinet, double bass, and flute, for example. In addition, there will be free performances and other activities with musical connections at their core. In all, they will have 400 class hours. Indirectly, it is estimated that the social project of the Brazilian Symphony Orchestra sponsored by PRIO will benefit 42,000 people.

“PRIO’s support is extremely important to the OSB Foundation because it enables the expansion of the Orchestra’s educational actions, whether through concerts or the free classes given by our musicians for students of Conexões Musicais, the social inclusion project through education carried out by the OSB. With PRIO’s support, we have expanded the network of interaction and the number of impacts generated,” celebrates Gregório Tavares, Executive Director of the Fundação Orquestra Sinfônica Brasileira.
