PRIO to conduct Emergency and Environmental Protection Training in the Lagos Region
On September 3 and 4, PRIO will hold an emergency drill in the Lagos Region with the purpose of training employees and the community for emergency situations to ensure the ability to resolve problems quickly with minimal impact.
The activity will involve over 150 professionals on several fronts, including a crisis room in Rio de Janeiro and a field operation in Arraial do Cabo, in the southern region of Praia dos Anjos. Tents will be set up at the site and barriers and containment measures will be implemented at sea with the help of around 10 fishing vessels to simulate the response to the spill.
The drill will have the active participation of regulatory bodies, such as Ibama, the National Agency of Petroleum, Natural Gas and Biofuels (ANP) and the Brazilian Navy, to ensure compliance and effectiveness of the procedures. “Keeping our employees and communities well trained and prepared is crucial to addressing any event. Despite the low probability of incidents due to advances in technology and safety in the industry, it is fundamental that everyone knows how to react to minimize impacts. Identifying, signaling, communicating and supporting are core skills for an effective response,” says Leandro Brandão, Sustainability Manager at PRIO.
During the drill, PRIO undertakes not to impact tourism and fishing activities in the region. Tourists and community members who are not aware of the drill can obtain information at the tents set up at Praia dos Anjos.
