King Maker drilling rig concludes intervention at Tubarão Martelo in record time

The King Maker rig, operated by PRIO, concluded its third intervention in a year in the Tubarão Martelo field, in the Campos basin, the last one being in the TBMT-44 well.

Carried out in only 27 days, a record in wells in the field, the intervention was aimed at replacing the BCS, Centrifugal Submerged Pump, the equipment responsible for lifting and producing oil.

The rig has a differential: it is one of the two anchored units in Brazil that allows operation in shallow water, a typical characteristic of mature fields in the Campos Basin.

“The King Maker rig has become a strategic tool for PRIO, as it brings autonomy and flexibility to act in eventual well interventions, reducing our operating costs and increasing the efficiency of the Tubarão Martelo field by significantly reducing the response time to eventual shutdowns,” says Francilmar Fernandes, the company’s Operations Director.

PRIO completed the acquisition of King Maker in January 2021 and, after an investment in maintenance and improvement, the rig began operation in May of the same year.

This move allowed the company to eliminate the need to hire third-party rigs, avoiding expenses and mobilization time, reducing by 56% the cost of well intervention, besides allowing the interventions to be carried out in a shorter period of time.

“This move cuts across all of PRIO’s strategic strands, significantly improving response times, increasing sustainability and operational efficiency, reducing operating costs, preserving production, and enhancing the security of its assets,” adds the executive.
